How to Apply

Admission for the 2019-20 School Year

Admission to The GLOBE Academy is through a random lottery and is open to students who reside in the DeKalb County School District. Students applying for admission in 2nd through 5th grade must meet target language proficiency standards before applying for the lottery (SBOE Rule 160-4-9-.05(1)(g)(3)(iv).) Click here for more information about 2nd-5th grade admissions. The Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 6th grade lottery is open to all students, regardless of foreign language proficiency. New students are not accepted in 7th or 8th grade.

Applicants for kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2019. Applicants for 1st grade must be 6 years old on or before September 1, 2019 regardless of completing Kindergarten at a private school.

Open Enrollment for the Lottery is Friday, January 25, 2019 to Monday, February 25, 2019. The GLOBE Academy uses the Lotterease online lottery system. Parents can apply online via the GLOBE website during the Open Enrollment period. Check back here for the link once Open Enrollment has started.

Applications made after the Open Enrollment period will be placed at the end of the waiting list in the order they are received.

The admissions lottery will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. All applicants will be notified by email immediately following, and lottery results will be available on the GLOBE website and at the main entrance of Lower Campus. The deadline to accept or decline enrollment is Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. After acceptance, families have 21 calendar days to register their student with required documents.

Verify that you live in the DeKalb County School District

If applying for 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th grade, schedule a STAMP assessment. Email Susan Mellage at to schedule. The STAMP must be taken before Feb. 14 to be included in the lottery.

Determine “economically disadvantaged” status.
In accordance with O.C.G.A 20-2-2066(a)(1)(A), the GLOBE Academy may utilize a weighted lottery to provide an increased chance of admission to student who are economically disadvantaged by State Board Rule. To facilitate the weighted lottery, applicants can indicate their “economically disadvantaged” status on the lottery application and such status will be verified as part of the registration process. The weight for economically disadvantaged students will be calculated annually by The GLOBE Academy using a formula established in the charter contract. If accepted in the lottery, you will need to submit documentation to support economically disadvantaged status.

The Georgia Department of Education defines economically disadvantaged as a student whose family is below the poverty line, qualifies for free or reduced lunch, or whose family qualifies for federal benefits including SNAP, TANF, WIC, or Medicare. Applicants that answer yes to at least one of the questions below can identify as economically disadvantaged on the application.

Based on your annual household income and the total number of individuals living in your household, does your family qualify for free or reduced lunch?

Do you receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as Food Stamps?
Do you receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits?
Do you receive Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) benefits?
Do you receive Medicare benefits?
Do you receive a Section 8 tenant-based or project-based housing voucher?
