“CHOOSING LOVE AT GLOBE”
Choose Love. Are there any two words in any language better than those two words? At GLOBE, we are so proud of our Upper Campus students who are taking part in the “Choose Love” movement by Jesse Lewis. Led by our wonderful Upper School Counselor, Ashley Church, Choose Love is a social and emotional learning program that utilizes character values, positive psychology, mindfulness, emotional intelligence,
neuroscience and other tools to help students learn how to Choose Love in any situation.
“Although we can’t always choose what happens to us, we can always choose how to respond” ~ Scarlett Lewis, Founder of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love™. This oftentimes hard to accept fact of life is at the core of the Choose Love program. Children learn to choose a loving thought over an angry one. And when a child realizes that they have the power to positively impact themselves as well as those around them, it is not only
empowering but perpetuates more positive actions and interactions.
GLOBE is a diverse, globally-centric and progressive environment and we couldn’t think of a better program to complement our unique school and our own CREST values. With Choose Love, children learn to live life with courage and gratitude, to practice forgiveness, and maybe above all, to be compassionate individuals. Being able to Choose Love gives them resilience in challenging times, to learn responsibility, and to understand that they always have a choice when responding to situations and circumstances.
Ashley has been at the GLOBE for 5 years and we couldn’t be more grateful for her expertise, enthusiasm and her love for teaching and the students. Here are a few pics of Ashley with our 4th grade Mandarin students. In this session, the children learned how to
recognize the signs of stress, and each shared the behaviors they recognize in themselves when they are feeling anxious. They practiced tools such as “deep belly breathing” and “visualization” to help them relax. Everyone also shared with their friends their “happy place” - it was a fun class!
Ashley meets with each Upper Campus class once a month, and delves into some more serious topics with the Middle School like teen stereotypes, self acceptance, and drugs and alcohol.
The Choose Love curriculum is a comprehensive evidence based program, created by educators for educators and is aligned with Common Core State Standards andAmerican School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success, and CASEL’s five core SEL competencies.
