School Leadership

Leadership Team

To meet our mission effectively, The GLOBE Academy has decided to implement a leader model that will capitalize on the strengths and talents of more than just one individual. Although The GLOBE Academy will have a Head of School/Instructional Lead, this team member will collaborate with a talented team of individuals with capacities in operations, law and community partnerships/organizing. These leaders will collaborate to plan and make critical decisions surrounding all aspects of operational and academic life at The GLOBE Academy.

Anita Lawrence head shotAnita Lawrence – Head of School

Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Anita received her B.A. in Psychology and Spanish with a minor in Education from Brandeis University. She continued her studies in the Education field at Simmons College, where she completed an Urban Elementary Masters in Education program.

After serving as an elementary world language and classroom teacher in Boston, Anita relocated to the Atlanta area in 2002 and began teaching Spanish at a local elementary school. During this time, she implemented an accelerated learning technique that exposed her young students to 100% target language instruction through thematic units with the integration of music, art, and brain-based learning strategies. Anita later transitioned to the high school level, where she gained experience in educational administration while pursuing certification in Educational Leadership at Kennesaw State University. Anita spent several years serving as a world language department chair and took on the role of a small learning community academy leader simultaneously. Through these leadership roles she learned that ensuring a quality education for all learners and promoting professional growth among teachers was her calling.

In her most recent role as World Language Coordinator, she led both the World Language and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs in a district serving close to 50,000 students. In addition to developing curricular tools, facilitating training sessions and monitoring compliance, Anita had the opportunity to visit close to 100 schools where she regularly offered her support in developing quality language programs.

Anita currently resides in Fairburn, Georgia with her husband and preschool-aged children, Landon and Logan. As she prepares to return to a school-based leadership role, she is excited to join The GLOBE Academy team where she can have a more direct impact on student success.
